The ongoing taxi violence in the Cape metro in the Western Cape has claimed more than 10 innocent lives of commuters.
In the process, due to fear of being caught in the cross-fire, some people are unable to go to work as the violence continues to play out even in the townships.
Unfortunately, the government has completely failed to deal with this problem, effectively telling the country that Taxi Associations should negotiate and solve the problem on their own. It is clear that the lives of Africans are cheap and unimportant to the ANC and DA government.
We believe if the taxi violence largely threatened white lives, the government would not throw its hands in the air; it would quickly intervene decisively.
Instead of doing so, the City of Cape Town and the government are busy spending over R615 million on soldiers to guard the malls rather than deal with the problem of poverty and taxi violence.
We believe that resolving the problem must be a matter of priority because taxis are the main source of transport for Africans living in the townships. The government should work with the taxi association to peacefully resolve the conflicts for the sake of the people affected by the ongoing violence.
We believe that a resolution must deal with creating an efficient, respectful,
tolerant and conflict-free model of business between taxi users, the taxi association, and the government.
We specifically plead with the taxi associations to peacefully resolve the issue for the sake of all African people.
Peace amongst Africans.. War against the enemy..!
