The Pan Africanist Congress of Azania (PAC), welcomes the recommendation made by Justice Dikgang Moseneke to the Electoral Commission (IEC), wherein he recommends that the Local Government elections scheduled for 27 October 2021 be postponed to February 2022.
It would not be possible to hold free and fair elections while the country is still under the COVID-19 epidemic and while we are experiencing third wave of this virus.
Current regulations do not make for possible campaigning of Political parties and candidates contesting to be elected.
The PAC support the postponement of elections cognisant of the fact that communities are fed-up by current public representatives, who are not responsive, accountable and do not provide much needed basic services.
In most areas there is no electricity and/or electricity supply and cut-offs are random, no maintenance of roads, collection of refuse, sewer spillages etc.
However we humbly, implore our communities that February is not too far, they would still be able to remove these Councillors who have become demi-gods without compassion for all residents who are in dire need of basic services.
Let’s all make sure that we are registered to vote and actually vote on the date to be determined.

Apa Pooe – PAC Secretary General.
